Veg Expo 2015

Veg Expo

Join us at Canada Place on Sunday, May 31st @ 10-5pm for a fun-filled event that explores the world of plant-based diets and healthy lifestyles!

We’re super excited to be a part of this event for the second year in a row. Come find us in the interactive Kids Zone, where we’ll be planting seeds and selling our delicious local honey! There will also be many other booths offering samples, plus cooking demos and workshops throughout the day. This year the expo theme is reducing your ‘FOODPRINT’, which you can contribute to by supporting local businesses and growers.

We are also looking for event volunteers to help us from 10-1pm or 1-4pm. You’ll get free entrance to the event, an opportunity to connect with your community and The World In A Garden, and volunteer hours. If you’re interested, please contact joey@theworldinagarden.com.

#dinnerpartyYVR: Feasting in a Lebanese Forest



Mark your calendar for Saturday, March 28, 2015 as we cook up a dinner party you won’t forget!

Imagine over 150 Vancouverites enjoying a home-cooked meal hosted by 30 Hobby chefs opening up their homes in support of their favourite charity. This year we are so excited that Hobby Chef Majid has chosen to support The World In A Garden for the second year in a row with his amazing Lebanese Feast!

Tickets: 4 seats / minimum $40 CAD

Your ticket includes:
- Dinner menu as described below
- 1 glass of Serendipity Wine or Howe Sound Beer
- Entrance to the after party at Meccanica (entertainment, cash bar & desserts by donation)

Enjoy your dinner party from 6-8 pm. After which time all diners, including hobby chefs/sous-chefs, will meet at the Social Bites Hot Spot & after-party. Then we’ll dance and eat the night away! Doors open @ 8:30 pm, located @ 102 East 1st Avenue, Vancouver.

Dive in to a Lebanese culinary adventure with Hobby Chef Majid, who is featuring a Lebanese vegetarian mezza including six Lebanese appetizers, followed by a Kebbeh Dinner and Lebanese Salad.

Reducing red meat consumption has been identified as number three among the ‘Top 5′ biggest potential Ecological Footprint-reducing contributions being used by Vancouver’s Greenest City Lighter Footprint “Feet to the Fire” Committee as a baseline. Learn to Eat Green with nutrient- dense greens that you can harvest year round, with Holistic Nutritionist and Urban Gardener, Tricia Sedgwick. You will learn tricks to grow, harvest and prepare a greener diet for a healthy body and the environment.

Enjoy an interactive class with tasting and recipes. Pre-register with a donation of $5 to The World In A Garden and you will be entered to win a copy of The Book of Kale by Sharon Hanna! With many thanks to Choices Markets for their sponsorship!

A Lush Garden Event, September 29, 2013


Vancouver — Join The World In A Garden Sunday, September 29 from 12 – 3 pm at their new garden site (3 plots North of E. Boulevard & W. 57th Avenue) for A LUSH Garden Event. This free event will kick off The Rain Barrel Project with live music, a rain water harvesting workshop, a rain barrel auction and tastings from Happy Planet
(Online pre-registration is appreciated.)


The hands-on workshop will demonstrate how easy it is to put Vancouver’s 45” of annual rainfall to work, at home or in the garden, by using water conservation and rain water harvesting techniques.  The workshop will include a demo with simple instructions on how to:
•    Use rain barrels with various designs
•    How to get the most of your rain water harvest
•    How to cultivate native edible rain gardens for water conservation

The event also kicks off a unique sustainability partnership initiated by The World In A Garden that recycles food barrels from Lush Cosmetics by converting them (with the help of Flexahopper Plastics Ltd.)  into beautiful, one-of-a-kind rain barrels designed by LUSH artists and Emily Carr University of Art & Design students. More than 200 barrels will be recycled through this community initiative.  The barrels will be auctioned off and donated to various food growing initiatives or used at home, with all proceeds going to The World In A Garden’s education programs. Kids are welcome too with a planting station where they can make their own DIY planters with rain garden plants.

Not only does The Rain Barrel Project support Vancouver’s Greenest City 2020 Action Plan to reduce per capita water consumption by 33 percent from 2006 levels but it educates, engages and entertains citizens about responsible water use. The World In A Garden’s goal is to help protect valuable water resources through community education and the sale of 250 barrels, harvesting an estimated total of 325,000 gallons of water.
