Earth Day (and every day)   is a celebration of the bounty Mother Earth provides  – and we need to help her do it well!

Whether we are planting vegetables, cleaning up our streets, conserving water, or biking to work, we are contributing to a better planet and a healthier you!

Together, let’s take a day to celebrate the impacts of urban agriculture, local food and responsible & ethical business here in Vancouver! The World In A Garden will be holding an Earth Day Celebration of All Things Green with our friends from the community THIS Saturday, April 23rd, 12pm-4pm.

We will be joined by our friends at Growing City, MyGardenBag.com & Choices Market, who support The World In A Garden’s ongoing efforts to green Vancouver and create a more sustainable tomorrow. The garden will be open to neighbours and friends for a garden tour, garden planting, soil spreading, a BBQ hosted by Choices and a KALE SALE (fresh, sweet kale straight from the garden ground). Trust us, you’re going to want to get your hands on some of this delicious kale before it disappears! We’ll even give you the best kale chip recipe ever! And if you’re still not sold, we’ll be offering you dessert instead, with our annual RASPBERRY PLANT Sale. You might even be lucky and get our exotic  Golden Fall variety that always receives  raving reviews :)

Individuals and families of ALL AGES are welcome! If you’re interested in this event, please RSVP to Alicia at 604.257.5151 ext. 213 or abaddorf@jfsa.ca.

We look forward to seeing you there!

We had our first community volunteer day of 2011 at the garden yesterday, and despite the crummy weather, we had a fantastic turnout! The Spring Starter brought out an enthusiastic group of volunteers that spent the afternoon transforming the garden. Alongside a few of our community gardeners, volunteers of all ages pulled out the invasive weeds that have been creeping up throughout the garden.

We also had our PRIZE DRAW! Melissa won a Potato Fusion kit, & Sarah won a Seeds of Plenty gift basket! Way to go ladies…

We are grateful to have such devoted volunteers and hope to see them again soon! A big THANK YOU to everyone who came out to support TWIAG =)

In other news…our successful Potato Fusion kit sale has come to an end, but we have many more exciting events and fundraisers coming your way!

Saturday, April 16th: Evergreen’s Earth Day at Jericho Beach- We will have a display at the Earth Day Fair. Come out to support TWIAG & many other local environmental organizations!

Saturday, April 23rd: Earth Day Celebration at TWIAG!! Come join us for a tour of the garden, some garden digging, and a BBQ sponsored by our friends at Choices Market :) Please e-mail or phone Alicia if you are interested in attending: abaddorf@jfsa.ca or 604-257-5151 ext. 213. We look forward to seeing you there!

Plus, stay tuned for more upcoming events- fundraisers, film screenings, garden gate sales, volunteer days and our summer Seed to Table Workshop Series! There’s something for everyone at TWIAG…

And for those of you who bought Potato Fusion kits, be sure to watch the video below for some practical instructions on growing your potatoes.
